Dopefly
At B Water Studios, we are proud to share a first look into the concept design and redesign work we have been developing for the animated series Dopefly.
The project is based on the graphic novel Dopefly, created by Eddie Caldwell. The comic blends urban culture, music, and supernatural elements into a bold and contemporary universe. While often associated in spirit with the stylistic energy of 1970s and 1980s urban cinema, Dopefly is a modern property with a strong visual and narrative identity of its own.
To explore and elevate this world for animation, we invited one of the most talented concept artists from France, François Bourdin https://www.artstation.com/franoisbourdin, to collaborate closely with our team. François brought a striking and highly distinctive visual approach to the project, introducing an angular and graphic design language that immediately set the tone for the series. His work helped shape a look that feels fresh, expressive, and perfectly aligned with the attitude of Dopefly.
During this phase, we focused on character redesign, visual style exploration, and overall world building. Together, we developed silhouettes, moods, and visual rhythms that could translate the spirit of the comics into a strong animated format. The result is a bold artistic direction that we are very proud of.
We are excited to share a selection of insights from this design phase, offering a glimpse into how the series has been shaped visually and creatively so far.
At the moment, Dopefly is in the financing and development phase. We are confident in the creative direction and look forward to continuing the journey and bringing the series to the screen when the time is right.
Stay tuned for more updates as the project evolves.
